What's in our Food?

Happy Monday, everyone!
Today in the English class we took an interesting topic, it's all about what's in our food! So, I thought I'd share all the information with you. Let's start!

Carbohydrates are one of the main nutrients. Your body changes carbohydrates into glucose (Sugar) to give energy, which it stores in your liver and muscles. Brown rice, Pasta, Beans and whole wheat bread provide carbohydrates. However, eating too many carbohydrates is not healthy, so be sure to eat fruit and vegetables, as these are low in carbohydrates. Melon, strawberries, and avocado are especially good!

Protein is in every living cell in the body. Your body needs protein from the foods you eat to keep bones, muscles, and skin healthy. You get proteins from meat, milk, nuts and beans. You need to eat protein every day because your body can't store protein

A little salt is essential, but too much salt is bad for you. It increases your blood pressure which can damage your health. We only need 1 gram of salt per day, but most people eat around 8 grams!

Saturated Fat
Saturated Fat is found in milk products like butter, cheese, cream, and ice-cream, as well as the skin and fat of chicken and turkey. Eating a lot of saturated fat can increase your weight and give you too much cholesterol, which can be bad for your heart. You should not eat much saturated fat.

A calorie is a unit of energy in food. The foods we eat and drink gives us energy called 'calories'. We need calories, but it is unhealthy to have too many without being active.

Cholesterol is a substance ( material ) like fat that is in all cells of the body. Your body needs some cholesterol but a lot of cholesterol is not healthy. It can cause heart disease. Eggs and chicken liver contain a lot of cholesterol.

Sugar is found naturally in fruit, vegetables, and milk. Sugar is also often added to food and drinks. There are different kinds of sugars, such as fructose, sucrose and glucose. Your body turns sugar into glucose for energy, but a lot of sugar is bad for you. It damages your teeth, it can increase your weight and it can make your blood sugar level high too.

A nutrient is a substance ( material ) that helps the body to grow and stay healthy.

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that is found in plants. Fiber makes you feel full and can help you control your weight. It also helps you to digest food more easily.

Fat is a type of nutrient. You need some fat to stay healthy, but not too much. The fat you don't use is stored in the body, so your weight increases.

That's all for today! I really hope that was helpful :) Please feel free to share or add more information here! Remember that 'Sharing is Caring'
